Happy Birthday Sir Paul McCartney!

The world can surely be divided into two warring factions - not wizards and muggles, nor Chocolate and Vanilla (who really chooses vanilla???) but the only division that matters - Beatles people and Stones people. I, to be sure, am a Stones person. This is not to say that I do not admire and respect the contributions of the Liverpudlian quartet, but when the chips are down, we must each choose sides. And if given my druthers, I would be a Mick/Keith guy over a Paul/John guy every time. If I can't groove with a song, it just hasn't done it's job. And when it comes to the groove, Stones take it over Beatles every time.
Before we re-open this TransAtlantic Hatfield-McCoy feud, for today only we are ordering a cessation of conflict, to celebrate a happy occasion on which we can all agree.
Turning a spry 72 years young today, we just wanted to say Happy Birthday to one of the most influential songwriters/singers/bass players in rock n roll history.
Ironically, Beatles songs aren't big requests at Dueling Pianos shows. Yes, there's the occasional HEY JUDE, or I SAW HER STANDING THERE, but proportionally, considering the reach of the Beatles, their songs do not come in nearly as often as less-historical acts (looking at you, Rick Springfield.)
Actually, you could say the same thing about the Rolling Stones, or even Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and other historically top-selling rock acts.
You are more likely to hear A-Ha's "TAKE ON ME" at your local Dueling Piano Bar than The Eagles "TAKE IT EASY", and while the rock epics like "BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY" and "PARADISE BY THE DASHBOARD LIGHT" are standards in the repertoire, the equally impressive Beatles opus "GOLDEN SLUMBERS" never sees the light of day at Dueling Pianos shows.
Why? Perhaps we'll explore that in an upcoming post. For now, let's just enjoy Sir Paul, serenading in his own honor on the anniversary of his birth...and yes, there's a groove.
