A solemn anniversary today, the passing of musical giant Michael Jackson five years ago.
An artist whose musical legacy was overshadowed in his later life by scandal, controversy and eccentricity. But in these past five years, much of the tabloid sheen has faded and the music remains. A catalog of R&B, Motown, pop (we still shudder at the honorific, so we won't be using it here) and dance music that is still popular and relevant today.
Any singer who can crack the pop charts years after his passing speaks to his influence and ability.
BILLIE JEAN is still among the most popular requests at our NYC Dueling Pianos shows. SMOOTH CRIMINAL, BEAT IT, MAN IN THE MIRROR and I WANT YOU BACK all stil make regular appearances at the piano bar.
Gone before his time, but leaving an anthology of songs spanning the decades of rock n roll history, we remember the artist that was, and imagine the music that might have been.
