Those of you who have been to our NYC Dueling Pianos shows know that one of our very few "rules" is: No Slow Tunes, No Showtunes.
Today, however, we are breaking that rule.
Tonight was the opening of TICK TICK BOOM, one of Jonathan Larson's older works, here in NYC. For those who have been living under a theatrical rock for fifteen years, Jonathan Larson was the writer of RENT.
After his premature passing, his family created the Larson Foundation and Larson Grant programs, to help out other young composers and writers of musical theater, so they wouldn't have as much of a struggle as Jonathan had during his early career.
Before the curtain rose, there was a talk-back session in the theater lobby, featuring members of Jonathan's family, who discussed how they felt in giving something back to the theater community that had shown such affection for Jonathan's work.
Scattered throughout the packed hall were many of the writers and composers who had won these awards in recent years, and as a spontaneous show of gratitude and appreciation, they began to sing Jonathan's signature song - SEASONS OF LOVE.
The emotion in the room was palpable. Enjoy.
