There is a great and insightful article posted, on the research done with many of the regional rock radio stations in the country, and what gets on their playlists.
It definitely translates to the traveling and touring piano bar players, who tell stories about what songs get requested alot in their home towns, and in venues on the road, whether in the USA, or even on Caribbean cruise ships. Here in NYC, we certainly see our dominant share of Billy Joel requests, and country isn't nearly as in demand as it is with our Southern brethren.
