The year was 1983, and Prince was playing a live show. He brought in the best mobile recording unit in the country and the concert became the bedrock of one of the great 80's albums - Purple Rain.
No AutoTune. A few overdubs, yes, but basically the entire track was recorded in one take, live in concert.
Take that Britney.
