Waiting For a Star To Fall - Today's Guilty Pleasure

One of the staples of a SHAKE RATTLE & ROLL NYC Dueling Pianos show is our Guilty Pleasure segment, where the crowd digs deep down and requests their closet songs - the tracks they would otherwise be embarrassed to admit they love in the light of day.

So, what makes a good Guilty Pleasure song?

Typically, they are the cheesiest of pop songs. Sometimes a one-hit wonder. They often involve artists who would be considered among the less weighty of the pop stratosphere - but not always. Like the definition of obscenity, it is something you only know when you see it.

THE RIGHT STUFF by NKOTB? Absolutely.

Bel Biv Devoe's POISON? Yup.

BARBIE GIRL by Aqua? Do you really need to ask.

RAINBOW CONNECTION? Now you're catching on.

When such a song pops into our heads, it's earworm-like magical properties can keep it there for days.

For example, we offer one such Guilty Pleasure - the 1988 hit from Boy Meets Girl - WAITING FOR A STAR TO FALL.

For bonafides, the tune made it all the way up the charts to #1, and it surely has a catchy hook. The writing team behind Boy Meets Girl is also the team that gave us HOW WILL I KNOW and I WANNA DANCE WITH SOMEBODY, two of Whitney Houston's greatest charttoppers (and possible guilty pleasures themselves...).

So, think of that tune currently stuck in your head that won't come out. Then press play. And voila - it's gone. But don't blame us if you can't stop humming this one for a while.
