An article in this week's Wall Street Journal illustrates just how tough it is out there for today's working musicians.
For our readers who are musicians, making a living performing other people's songs, take a moment and give this article a read. If you have gigs, be thankful. If you are one of the lucky minority making a living as a performer, then remember just how fortunate that fraternity is.
If you are a patron of the local piano bar or Dueling Pianos show, then hopefully you are one of those who doesn't take the live music for granted.
Shake Rattle & Roll is having a banner year, creating new opportunities for piano players up and down the East Coast, a region of the country with very few full-time Dueling Piano rooms. It has meant creating a brand new business model for our industry and thinking about the working musician in a 21st century context.
With competition from karaoke, DJs, and every manner of discount music available, we appreciate all the clients who have brought our show into their venues and their homes, and all the audience members who have made Shake Rattle & Roll the premier piano entertainment company on the East Coast.
