It was twenty five years ago today, that a seminal rap record made its debut. Both a critical and a commerical success, Paul's Boutique, the sophomore effort by the New York trio, The Beastie Boys, was a record built almost entirely on samples (105 in all).
While not containing any of the radio-familiar tracks of its predecessor, License to Ill, the record attained double-platinum status and made the Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
The album holds a special place in our hearts here at Shake Rattle & Roll, for many reasons, the first of which is the cover art, shot a mere few blocks from our offices on Manhattan's Lower East Side.
