A true legend of gospel, blues and jazz passed away yesterday. Joe Sample, founding member of the Jazz Crusaders, brought his distinctive blend of styles to artists from Eric Clapton to Steely Dan to Tina Turner.
A pioneer of the electric piano, he boasted an impressive discography as both a solo artist, band member and session player spanning over five decades.
