In barely a week, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has had over one million downloads of his new solo album, Tomorrow's Modern Boxes.
That figure, actually 1.1 million, includes both free downloads and paid downloads of $6, from BitTorrent. Since the actual sales figure is not yet known, the album will not appear on this week's Billboard Charts.
In a statement, Yorke said, "If it works well it could be an effective way of handing some control of internet commerce back to people who are creating the work. Bypassing the self-elected gatekeepers. If it works anyone can do this exactly as we have done."
